From Standard Times Press News Paper NEWS The four man delegation of Saudi Arabian Based and one of the UN’s recognized Islamic Organizations, the World Assembly of Muslim Youth commonly known as WAMY, visited Sierra Leone earlier this month. They visited the Ministry of Education, Islamic Secondary Schools, Islamic Organizations, and Why Islam in Action, the United Council of Imams, Supreme Islamic Council, FBC, MMCET and Njala Student Unions.
The purpose of the visit according the two main coordinators, Sheikh Mohammed Abdul Zaki Kallon of the Sierra Leone Muslim Missionaries Union and Sheikh Dr. Habib Sheriff, the proprietor of Al – Aalee Arabic and Islamic Institute in Kosso Town, is to see how to help Muslims develop Islam and Arabic Education, how to train Imams etc. Last week the Muslim Missionaries Union in Sierra Leone (SLMMU) received four men high powered delegation from the world assembly of Muslim youth in Freetown . The delegation was led by Dr. Khalid Ibn Abdul Rahman Al-Ojaimie. During the delegation’s visit to the ministry of education youth and sport, he assured the deputy minister, Mr. Lansana Nyallay that their organization is ready to support Arabic language and Islamic studies in this country, meaning they would work with the government of sierra Leone to ensure that Arabic language and Islamic studies is being taught in all the major tertiary institutions in the country. Standard Arabic and Islamic education is paramount for a country whose population is predominantly Muslim. He also promised to work with the ministry to empower and encourage more Arabic language and Islamic studies teachers, he also assured the ministry that his organization will provide the necessary materials to build the Arabic and Islamic curriculum to facilitate and enhance the teaching of Arabic and Islamic studies in the country. The leader also reiterated that both Arabic language and Islamic studies are vehicles for positive development in a country to develop, the leader stated that education should be the base and also total commitment and encouragement should be placed in this particular area, no country can develop rapidly without standard and quality education. He urged government and the ministry to continue to put more priority and emphasis in the educational sector. In his response, the deputy minister III of the ministry of education Dr. Lansana Nyallay said the delegation ideas were very good and the government is studying the proposal continuously and they are committed to any programme or project that can push this country forward. In another development, the delegation also met with all Islamic schools principals and head teachers at the King Fahd Secondary School in kissy. They also had meetings with other Muslim and Islamic leaders in the country. During the 4 Day - tour Sheikh Zaki Kallaon of the SLMMU, Sheikh Dr Habib Sherif proprietor of AL-Aalie Arabic institute, Sheikh M.A. Tarawallie of UMASS, Shekh Fu’aad Kabbah of World Islamic Call Society, Sheikh Alie Koroma and Sheikh Haroon of Arabic/Islamic Department of the ministry of education, Dr Ibrahim S. Kamara of MMCET, Alhaji Omar Sillah Bah of SIC were all in the company of WAMY. On their arrival at the airport they were received by the voice of Islam women’s wing group at Lungi.
