From Standard Times Press News Paper SPORTS Sierra Leone’s bid to qualify for the FIFA 2010 world Cup and CAF African Nations Cup suffered a setback when they lost away to lowly rated Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in Malabo. The presence of Leone Stars captain Mohamed Kallon and several foreign based players made no difference to a squad that lacks cohesion and needs more tactical discipline to compete in a qualifying group that feature African giants Nigeria and South Africa.
A win in Malabo would have put Leone Stars in a vantage position with three points up when they host South Africa in Freetown Saturday June 8 2008.Now Leone Stars need to win all their home matches and secure a win away if going to South Africa is a priority. According to reports monitored from Malabo Leone Stars notwithstanding the injection of the fresh legs of Kei Kamara of San Jose Earthquakes and Gibrilla Woobay in the attack never posed any serious threats to the Equatorial Guinea defence. The burden is now on newly appointed Leone Stars Coach Ahmed Kanu to transform the talents at his disposal to a more formidable squad. Results of matches played this weekend are displayed below.
