From Standard Times Press News Paper PRESS RELEASES Members of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) note with delight the confirmation/approval by Parliament of four of their colleagues to serve as Commissioners of the Independent Media Commission (IMC). On behalf of its members, the Executive extends hearty congratulations to the new commissioners who include: Commissioners Christo Johnson, Isaac Massaquoi, Augustine Garmoh, Joshua Nicole and Mrs. Bernadette Cole who was re-appointed Chairperson of the Commission.
The new commissioners have distinguished themselves in the journalism profession and SLAJ has no doubt that they will live up to expectation.
Whilst our hopes remain high as an association, we wish to assure the IMC under the leadership of Mrs. Bernadette Cole of our fullest support as the new commissioners embark on the difficult task of regulating the media to maintain professional standards.
It should be recalled that the IMC is a creation of both the Government of Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists and was established by an Act of Parliament in 2000. There are eleven commissioners serving on the board with SLAJ nominating five members while the government has six nominees. © Copyright by www.standardtimespress.net |
