For the second year running Leone Stars soccer club of Edmonton, Canada, stole the show with their annual New Year's Eve dance. It is a fund raiser that is fast becoming tradition for the budding squad of soccer players in this North American metropolis.

The jam session drew quite a crowd of fun-seekers, young and old, with all dancing their hearts away to melodious hip-hop, reggae, oldies, African, you name it. Ace Disc-Jockey, Ivan Jackson of Ivansonics music machine, thrilled and drilled the patrons all through the night and well into the morning of January 1, 2008.

Kelvin Kamara, team captain, expressed great delight over the impressive turnout of Edmontonians and visitors from out of town. " It shows we the Sierra Leonean youths can hold our own when it comes to hosting; we just need to get the chance," Kelvin beamed.

Leone Stars finished runners-up in the fourth division of the Alberta Soccer Association league last year. They fared well enough to gain the option of progressing to Division Three. That is where the fund-raising dance counts for much; it costs quite a lot to finance a team at any level of competitive soccer in Edmonton.
Though Leone Stars did not win the cup, Kelvin Kamara and his mates have full confidence in themselves and the management as they zero their sights on laurels in future. "We believe Coach Foday Samura and Team Manager John Elliot are there to guide and help us through," Kelvin said.

Also, on Christmas Day, a well known Sierra Leonean group FAMILY AND FRIENDS hosted their annual African-Canadian jamboree at the Sherbrooke Community League hall in the west of Edmonton. Peter Lebbie rocked the house as deejay. It was quite a night ,.
