The dance which featured the crème de la crème of the Sierra Leone community in Manitoba was chaired by Sylvanus Otterbein who implored all Sierra Leoneans to come together as one and support the government of Ernest Bai Koroma regardless of political affiliation. “I know we all have our political affiliation be it SLPP, PMDC or APC but in the interest of progress and development for our country let us come together and work to build a better Sierra Leone” he said.
Commending the Chief Electoral Commissioner of Sierra Leone Dr Christiana Thorpe for her credibility and no nonsense approach in conducting the elections, the interim secretary general of APC Winnipeg Chapter Mark Mangeh Turay said that Sierra Leone is now going through a history of new direction after the masses voted overwhelmingly against a government of corrupt and selfish individuals in spite of all the political machinations.
“As we celebrate here in Winnipeg let us don’t forget our compatriots in Sierra Leone, we owe our victory to these young men and women as well as our older folks who in their thousands stood up for democracy saying enough is enough and voted a ruling government out of power” Mark Mangeh Turay added.
The event also featured other speakers including Mr. Anthony Kamara who gave a brief history of the APC, Mrs. Karen Koroma wife of the interim chairman Peter Koroma who talked about her husband’s passion for the APC party that he had to traveled to Sierra Leone to help in the campaigning process, Mr. Mohamed Jah and Aunty Sally Wai talked about the need for peace and harmony to prevailed amongst Sierra Leoneans.
