From Standard Times Press News Paper Breaking News The pending elections in Sierra Leone have not only been the most serious cause for concern amongst the populace but also the most talked about its realities and the future outcomes. One such group that has distinguished itself in discussing, monitoring and praying for a good outcome of the polls on August 11 is the clergy in the country led by various Christian denominational sects. The Christian community is not only interested in seeing a peaceful election outcome but also a safe transfer of power to a legitimate winner against the background of much touted and hinted negative outcomes such as violence that may threaten the peace and security of the country and people back to oblivion. On this platform came out one distinguished clergy, the pastor-in-charge of the Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone in Brookfields, west of Freetown Rev. John Baminhoma. This week on Sunday 27th May 2007, the Man of God cautioned the public against bizarre and very dangerous election consequences. Rev. Baminhoma who spoke on the theme “Why is ours the way it is” warned Sierra Leoneans in his Sunday divine service sermon, to desist from making uncomplimentary statements referenced to the elections. The pastor was particularly referring to the diabolic statements of violence, bloodshed and inviting the military to take over the state if party A or B does not win. He reminded the congregation about some of the most ugly events the country has witnessed in the past in the hands of both civil and military rulers due to the diabolic plans and the evil thinking and machinations of the people that were devoid of peace and love for one another. Rev. Baminhoma who spoke on independent grounds and as a religious man also highlighted the country’s failing past and present. The sermon which was not political in nature also drew attention to people’s common attitudes towards one another such as citizens’ responsibilities in the country. Rev. Baminhoma ended his message by calling for God’s intervention in the country’s polls to avert dangerous consequences. © Copyright by www.standardtimespress.net |
