The SLPP National Party Conference slated for February 26 through 27 concluded on Sunday, February 28 after much and sometimes, contentious deliberations. The popularity of any government depends on its policies, which should focus on the interest of the general good for the general populace, but when the reverse is at play the life span of the government without exaggeration is expected to be short lived. The APC government is gradually heading towards that direction in its third year of reign. Though the possible alternative, which is the SLPP is still battling to appoint a leader

Dr Abass Bundu with Kanja Sesay.....Both Aiming For The SLPP High Seat
Dr. Abass Bundu’s letter of September 7, 2009 to the Secretary General of the SLPP, published in several newspapers recently has brought into the open a quarrel in the Party that has been brewing for a long time. The quarrel is over Chapter 4 (4.5) of a new party constitution adopted at the last convention in Kenema.  Chapter 4 (4.5) states that “a member of the National Executive shall not be eligible to be elected Presidential or Vice Presidential nominee whilst holding the executive office nor such election immediately following his/her vacation from that office

Despite the tension, trading of jabs and counter punches at the Winnipeg Convention Centre between the three candidates on Sunday 12th October, the SALNAM Executive Elections presidential debate ended with no clear cut frontrunner but with a big win for the Sierra Leone Community in Manitoba

Like Ben Bernanke in United States, Like Sambadeen in Sierra Leone
POLITICS

When President Ernest Bai Koroma appointed the Former Financial Secretary, Mr. Sambadeen Sesay as Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL), some APC party members were very critical of the appointment, saying that he is not one of them and were heard saying that he was not going to work in the interest of the party in governance. The pessimists’s assumption was buttressed when the exchange rate of the dollar to the Leone skyrocketed just few weeks after the appointment

Recycled Politicians in Sierra Leone.....Where Lies Their Loyalty?

Ambassador Sheku Saccoh....APC to SLPP to APC Turn Coat Master
In Sierra Leone, the bad side of politics is evident in the behavioural pattern of the politicians, which is identical by every estimation, thoughts and imagination. They are interested in acquiring wealth at the detriment of the state. National development takes the bottom part of their agenda, and in most cases by the time they get to that point it’s already late and would embark on making lofty and unreasonable promises to the voting public.

Do these three letters ‘A.P.C’ ring a bell loud enough for you to hear? If everyone does, what then is wrong with Dr. Sama “Puawui” Banya and his cohort in the APC of the 70s to the 90s? Some may say it is old age. Wow!

The talk about politics continues to dominate every discourse at the Stop Press Restaurant, drinking spots and other places. Some political parties have started mopping up and would appear that the focus is not centered on national development, but how to grab political power and be at the top of things. Although the road to the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections is far and thorny

I've been quite amused by interpretations of the final elections results, most of which have little bearing on the actual vote count. To save our collective intelligence from further torture by these numerically-challenged interpretations, I am presenting below tables derived from NEC numbers and some reasonable inferences that can be drawn from those numbers

Double Standards...Master of The Art SLPP Chairman John Benjamin
He is not a chameleon, a human being created out of the likeness of the image of God. Socrates would call him like any other human being a political creature, born free but everywhere he goes he is in chain. It is not known whether Socrates was referring to the physical chain or the conscience. Sometime, during his existence he would speak in parables like Jesus Christ talking to his congregation, admirers and disciples.
