The Chief Justice of Sierra Leone is a woman, the first in the History of this country
The Chief Justice of Sierra Leone is a woman, the first in the History of this country.  It was no freak of action when the President, His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma took the bold decision to appoint a female to the most exalted position in the third arm (the Judiciary) of the Administrative hierarchy of the state as enshrined in the country’s current Governing 1991 Constitution – The Executive, Legislative and Judiciary

NEWS > Commentaries
Posted by Philip Neville on Feb 21, 2010, 11:04
The State House press release that was manufactured (I called it so)by Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, though he denied to this writer doing  so, after a meeting last Friday at the Presidential Lodge that presented Hon. Afsatu Kabbah as a victim of circumstance tells how unserious the APC government is with its loud noise of fighting against corruption.

NEWS > Commentaries
Posted by on Feb 15, 2010, 12:04
In countries around the world, transportation and a good transport system is the pivot upon which all development programs are hinged. The movement of persons and goods within and outside any country often determines the progressive stage in the advancement of that country particular in the social and economic spheres. In Sierra Leone today

The Cocaine Plane From Caracas Venezuela.....Allegedly Bought By A Top Cabinet Minister
The integrity of the sovereignty of Sierra Leone was seriously at stake not too long ago (July 2008) when a Cessna Aircraft carrying about 700 Kg of cocaine substance landed at the Lungi International Airport close to the City of Freetown. The international world immediately focused attention on this small but viable West African State

Is Sierra Leone’s National Power Authority Still in Crisis?
NEWS > Commentaries

Bumbuna Hydro Electric Project.....Has Yet to Utilized Its Full Potentials
Not withstanding the current over-play of electricity supply to the city of Freetown, which has yet to be continuous and sustainable; and the newly commissioned Bumbuna Hydro Power Station, from where only intermittent supply seems to flow, the industry has still not reeled itself out of crisis that seem almost perpetually to engulf the wholly owned and managed government parastatal

Is Local Government Elections In Sierra Leone in Turmoil?
NEWS > Commentaries

Customary law in Sierra Leone, like the British Customary law is the basis of the legal system in Sierra Leone as it was in Britain from where the “Fountain of Justice and Principle” was acquired by our forebears, throughout the vast area of the hinterland of this country – Sierra Leone. Paramount Chiefs are the custodians of customary law in their respective chiefdoms, which by some measure of coincidence, quite often, if not always are synonymous and parallel in application throughout the country

Who is Fooling Who, Sierra Leone Brewery or the Press?
NEWS > Commentaries
Posted by on Feb 3, 2010, 14:14
The interest of Sierra Leoneans and other nationals who consume products from the Sierra Leone Brewery must always come first, in the Fourth Estate’s evaluation of matters/issues in relation to the health of the people of this nation and others. Anything done or purported to have been doneanies

Systematic Conspiracy and Larceny At National Revenue Authority
NEWS > Commentaries
Posted by on Jan 14, 2010, 09:02
There may be no better way to describe the two incidents that took place the past weeks. Experts in criminology and psychology perhaps may have a better and distinctive way of putting it for observers of the scenes to understand, but psyche would not mince their words to say that the primary suspect in the two incidents cannot be unconnected with the current investigation carried out by the Anti Corruption Commission

Finance Minister Fails President Koroma’s Performance Contract
NEWS > Commentaries
Posted by on Jan 13, 2010, 06:30
President Ernest Bai Koroma so-called ministerial contract for Cabinet Ministers in the APC government has been described as another political gimmick devised by State House to play on the intelligence of gullible supporters of the party and the International Community.  The impression from the Presidency to the people is that the life span of ministers of the APC government is based on satisfactory and prudent performance.

Sierra Leone is a small country with great potentials. It is endowed with sufficiently large deposits of minerals such as diamonds, rutile, bauxite, iron ore, etc; with favourable climatic condition for agriculture- a largely predictable two seasons and trained human resources-home to the first University in the sub region.

Is The Anti Corruption Commission Boss Afraid Of State House Sacred Cow?
NEWS > Commentaries
Posted by on Dec 14, 2009, 11:17
There are some of us that love this country very much, such that we do not like to see certain people leading this country down the drain by their actions. Those who have a reason to hide their activities from the public would interpret our actions as a witch-hunt and jealousy and bad heart and enemies of success. Those who hold such opinions are entitled to their opinions but they are certainly in the minority. The majority of people

Is Wheeler Dealer Jamal Shallop A Sacred Cow In Sierra Leone?
NEWS > Commentaries
Posted by on Nov 26, 2009, 14:08
An orphan nicknamed “Jumbo’ by the late Dr. Siaka Steven is one of the errand boys of Jamal Shallop and pushing out his thoracic cavity to inform people around “Wilberforce Bottom Mango” that his boss is one of the untouchables and sacred cows in the country and that the exposé of the standard times press has nothing to do with him. For Jumbo to make scathing comments as he parades the street is no surprise to many people as his allegiance and loyalty has since been tied to individuals who are exploiting Sierra Leone under the guise of businessmen and women

Mr.  Speaker, Honorable Members of Parliament, my government will serve all of the people, we will unite this country through equitable service to all people, across all regions, districts, cities, towns and villages. …..Mr. Speaker, our vision of national unity is not about giving jobs to a few elites posturing as the only authentic representatives of their towns and villages. Our vision of national unity is rooted in the ideals of service to the common man and woman of every region.
