President Koroma And The Fight Against Corruption In Sierra Leone Who to Trust?
OPINION > Something To Think About
Posted by on Mar 5, 2010, 08:27
President Ernest Koroma .....At The AU Summits'Must be strong on Corruption
Stunning revelations about ugly developments at the Queen Elizabeth Quay II involving some Customs and Excise employees is devastating and sending the wrong signals to the public about the management of the establishment that both the public and government rely on for revenue generation for the maintenance of the state. Allegations of connivance and double standards of workers

Mr. President the Amount Should Be Le2.4 Billion and Not Le1.3 Billion Sir
OPINION > Something To Think About
Posted by on Feb 23, 2010, 23:55
The penalty calculated by President Koroma in relation to the false declaration of goods shipped into this country by Lebanese born Ibrahim Moshen was based on the assumption that he is a first time offender, and therefore imagined that the sum of Le1.3 Billion was enough to caution him to avoid a repetition. President Koroma, since his elevation to the position of the First gentleman of the Republic of Sierra Leone

Granting Freetown City Council a Radio Licence: IMC Should Think Wisely
OPINION > Something To Think About
Posted by Theophilus Gbenda on Feb 15, 2010, 11:55
Granting a radio station licence to the All People’s Congress (APC) dominated Freetown City Council (FCC) will not only be a  miscalculation of the reality of situation, but another source of political conflict and a recipe  for chaos ahead of the 2012 general elections. One might be wrong, but judging from the recent past it is therefore no understatement but an undisputable fact

Fofanah, the Pimp is in a State of Cognitive Dissonance
OPINION
Posted by on Feb 3, 2010, 01:13
I have reproduced this essay, call it so because of no other description; published by an individual called Sorie Fofanah who works for the Global Times Newspaper. For those who may know him, his portrait would accompany this piece for ease of vision, but for the benefit of the masses who have never known him prior to this day, he is popularly known among a cross section of the curious minds as the PIMP MASTER

Zainab Bangura May Not Be the Best Minister But She Does Not Deserve the Sticks From Dr S.S. Banya
OPINION
Posted by Joseph Dumbuya on Jan 11, 2010, 01:20
You would think at his age, Dr S.S. Banya should have disappeared into the quiet life of his native Kailahun. After all, he has achieved a lot by Sierra Leone standards, talk less the amount of time he has been in the political limelight. But, no he is in no hurry to disappear from the rollercoaster of public life and wouldn't be bullied into it either. Good for him

President Ernest Koroma's Irony! We Now Have A Sacred Cow In Sierra Leone
OPINION > Something To Think About
Posted by on Dec 9, 2009, 06:30
Only last week, I wrote an article in this medium in which I asked the question whether Alieu Sesay is a sacred cow in the current APC Government. By all indications it appears that the answer to that question is in the affirmative as up till now the Anti Corruption Commission has failed to initiate an investigation into the NRA and Alieu Sesay. The inevitable conclusion is that the ACC has decided that Alieu Sesay is a sacred cow in Sierra Leone

Unmasking The Façade Behind Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister
OPINION > Plein Tok
Posted by Dr Sama Puawi Banya on Nov 26, 2009, 11:38

Was it prearranged or was it as I would prefer to phrase it, a God-incidence? Whichever way the anonymous articles in the Standard Times newspaper and that by Sorie Fofana of the Global Times newspaper, both in their last Tuesday editions respectively have set the tone for the unmasking of what I have always believed to be a falsehood. It has to do with the scheming and craftiness of President Koroma’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Zainab Bangura. Both authors have written with insight and candour that are uncommon in Sierra Leone journalism

Between The Sacked-Health Minister and Wheeler Dealer Shallop Brothers: Who Should be Charged?
OPINION > Something To Think About
Posted by on Nov 21, 2009, 20:23
This piece of article should not be seen as prejudicial to the matter in court, but an effort to open the eyes of the main actors charged with the responsibility of examining the official behaviour of civil servants and those put in positions of trust. The concern of the author is to seek answers to most, if not all of the issues raised in the article. It author is in a state of dilemma and requires help, specially from the Anti Corruption Commissioner, Mr. Tejan Cole and his response would do a great deal of help to the author

Attitudinal Change And The Judiciary in Sierra Leone
OPINION > Something To Think About
Posted by Philip Neville Executive Editor on Nov 17, 2009, 08:28
Since the election of His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma into office in September 2007, there are signs that he may have invested a lot of energy and resources into trying to change the attitude of the citizens of this country from doing business as usual. Indeed the President highlighted that fact in his inaugural speech when he made a national call for a change of attitude in this country as the only way by which national development can be realized

The Police, Natcom and the Accused Persons.....No Proper Investigation
OPINION > Something To Think About
Posted by Philip Neville Executive Editor on Nov 12, 2009, 17:02

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mr. Oladipo Robin Mason of the Law Officers Department may be putting legal papers together for an application of Section 136 of the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA) to enable the prosecution team proceeds with the matter of NATCOM at the High Court as three accused persons have been charged, according to police investigators under the Telecommunication Act. In addition, the accused persons were charged with the offence of conspiracy, whether in general terms or specific as such terminology is frequently utilized by the Sierra Leone Police is not known.

Is It Selective Investigations, Mr. Anti Corruption Commissioner?
OPINION
Posted by on Sep 30, 2009, 17:53
The issue of Human Rights Abuse and deprivation are topical items on any state agenda, if a nation is to forge ahead and maintains respect and dignity for its citizens. The case of the Save Our Souls (SOS) Village Director, Mr. Olatungie Woode and Orphans should not be treated with the wave of the hand, or be looked upon as trivial issue that does not warrant the attention of state authorities

Eddie Turay Vs Denis Sandy: The Unfortunate Saga At Housing and Country Planing Ministry
OPINION > One Thing & Another
Posted by Rokatrr Kargbo on Sep 1, 2009, 01:54
I don’t know much about the past of Dr Denis Sandi, the Minister of Lands, Housing Country Planning and the Environment, apart from the fact that he stayed in Bo at some point in time and taught at the Fourah Bay College lately. However, as a people, what we have as a perception for him so far is that he symbolizes patriotism, an action man and the kind of person we yearn for.

For the past two weeks some media houses have been reporting an alleged rape case allegedly perpetrated by one Mr. Emile Jengo, believed to be the Programme Manager of Children’s Voice at the Radio Maria Sierra Leone, a religious radio station owned by the World Family Body of the Catholic Mission and operated by the Catholic Mission in Makeni. Mr. Emile Jengo is currently facing a two- count- charge of unlawful canal knowledge and indecent assault at the Magistrate Court in Makeni presided by Ms. Emmanuelle Harding

President Ernest Koroma’s Decision Must Be Respected
OPINION > One Thing & Another

The development of any nation is not the sole responsibility of any tribe, region or political party but the responsibility of its people. Race, ethnicity or affiliation, where development aspirations/ objectives are the focus, none of it should be considered as either a factor or driving force. That is why those who consider any of these elements in the development

Taking A Yarn From Siaka Stevens….Bassie Turay Must Seek Medical Attention
OPINION > Plein Tok
Posted by on Aug 19, 2009, 15:32
He is dead, gone but not forgotten entirely not only as a former railway worker, trade unionist or ex-president of the Republic of Sierra Leone, but for some of his genuine statements and pronouncements dished out to his Cabinet Ministers, friends, relatives and government officials. To Harold Neville, the late Siaka Stevens advised him not to venture into politics.
