Alieu Sesay Pledges To Unit Sierra Leone Community in Manitoba
Posted by Sahr Yamba on Nov 18, 2009, 20:38

The New Executive of the Sierra Leone Community in Manitoba
It was in an atmosphere of oneness and friendship that David Mahdi Koroma, erstwhile president of the Sierra Leone Nationals Association in Manitoba (SALNAM), handed over the mantle of power to newly elected President, Allieu Sesay, last Saturday in Winnipeg, Canada.

In an interview with this reporter earlier before the handing over ceremony, Sesay outlined plans to bring the Sierra Leone community in Manitoba together and asserted he had already commenced mending fences with his other co aspirants, Moses Shyllon and Mohamed Sesay.

“I called them personally letting them know that my victory is really not mine but that of all Sierra Leoneans in Manitoba and that they should join me in making our community a success,” Sesay maintained. He promised that one of his priorities upon receiving the mantle of office was the SALNAM constitution, which has lots of loopholes, will be re-examined to meet current standards of good practice as soon as possible.

In his handing over address, David Mahdi Koroma admonished Sesay that the post he was about to take up was not an easy one because it required lots of sacrifice. He promised to make himself available to the incoming executive at all times when ever the need arose for his help. David likened his leadership to a “passenger” who has reached the end of his journey and it was time to disembark.

In his address, the newly elected president, Sesay promised to work in the interest of all Sierra Leoneans to the best of his ability. As a show of his commitment to unity, he asked for a moment’s silence for the dad of Moses Shyllon, one of his fellow aspirants, who just passed away back home in Freetown
