On Monday 14th July, 2008 this paper reported that the sum of $10,000 was handed over to prison officer Sarian Jones by the only Female suspect in the cocaine saga, who is currently appearing in court on charges on other charges
Marcha Prinequos allegedly handed over the money to Sarian Jones for safe keeping and also to take care of her while in remand.
The prison officer became panic and handed over the $10,000 to her immediate boss, Mr. Bilo Kamara who converted the money to his own use and benefit and when the news broke out he surrendered the sum of $600 to the Acting Director of Prison, Mr. Showers and the matter died suffered natural death.
Yesterday at the Pademba Road Central Prison, a search exercise was conducted when news leaked out that some of the detained cocaine suspects are in possession of mobile phones, which they are using to communicate with friends, relatives and their godfathers in Sierra Leone and overseas.
Officers Bilo Kamara, Ransford Williams, Alie Bangura alias “arata” and Lamin Bangura alias “London” searched some of the cells and discovered a Nokia phone with Mohammed Sesay, Leone Stars Team Manager. It is reported; according to Standard Times impeccable sources that the mobile phone was discovered by O.C Lamin Bangura who handed it over to his superior officer Bilo Kamara.
The troubling news is that the officers in the search team are trying to suppress the matter and convert the phone to their personal use.
Up to press time, the Acting Director of Prison, Mr. Showers has not been officially informed about the discovered phone as all efforts are geared towards keeping it dark from him.
As reported last by this medium that officer Bilo Kamara is always in the habit of satisfying his selfish ends and desire, neither the prisoners nor the government.
The case of the $10,000 is one among the unpatriotic behaviours demonstrated by him. Prison sources say, if investigated officer Lamin Bangura is prepared to say the truth as he would not want to loose his job, despite the ridiculous amount of money he is receiving as salary at the end of every month. The fear expressed by most prison officers is that as long Bilo Kamara is retain as officer at the possibility for Mohammed Sesay or any other member among the suspects to escape is eminent as money is being lavished on them on a daily basis which is making them to receive preferential treatments
