AL NAJMA Club are set to sign Sierra Leone international soccer player Alhaji Sesay.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who plays for Holland's Feyenoord, arrived last night for a week-long trial with the Bahraini Club.
Al Najma's general secretary Hassan Ismail said the player will undergo health tests before taking part in some friendly matches with local clubs.
He will then be evaluated by the club. Ismail added that Al Najma's Bosnian coach Senad Creso is presently looking for an attacking midfielder like Sesay as Al Najma are hoping to clinch their third successive King's Cup this year.
If Al Najma succeed in signing Sesay, he would considerably strengthen the team ahead of the 31st edition of the prestigious King's Cup which gets underway on Thursday.
In their opening match in last-16 round, Al Najma clash with East Riffa on February 9.
Sesay is expected to replace Nigerian midfielder Joseph Obenwa, who was sacked by the club following unsatisfactory performances during the early matches in the league.
The Sierra Leonean, who has represented his country in the under-17 World Youth Championship held in Egypt 11 years ago, will become the third professional at the club.
The other players are 27-year-old French defender Benoit Croissant and a young 20-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder Balliy Ernest who is presently recovering from a knee injury.
Sesay started his professional career in 1996 with Swedish club Oster FC and then signed on for Feyenoord two years later.
He stayed with Feyenoord till 2004 before being transferred on loan to another Dutch club Doldrecht for a season. He returned to Feyenoord in 2006.
Sesay played alongside top quality players in Feyenoord like Holland internationals Pierre Van Hooijdonk, Robin Van Persie and former Japanese striker Shinji Ono.
