ALIMAMY SAMUEL KABIA
Mr. Alimamy Samuel Kabia was born on July 12th, 1939 in Lunsar in the Marampa Chiefdom in Port Loko District, Northern Province. He was a Heir of the Pa Kuma Crowning House. His parents were Pa Soso Kabia and Ya N’Dama Gbla. He grew up in Lunsar as a boy under the guardianship of his older brother Pa Momodu Kabia. As a young adult, he was in the care of his older sister Haja N’Sirah Kabia. These two people were very instrumental and influential in shaping his personality and the way he lived his life. As a member of the House of Ruling Chiefs, it was imperative that he received the best education possible as it was the only avenue for preparing future citizens for leadership roles in the country. He had his primary school education at St. Peters Claver (RC) in Lunsar, his secondary education at the Magburaka Central School, and the Government Secondary School in BO (BO School). After BO School, he was employed as a clerk at Barclays Bank and worked his way up to Managerial positions. During his tenure with Barclays Bank, he attended several banking and finance courses in London, Ghana and several other countries where he excelled and achieved recognition. He was very instrumental in the founding of the Marampa-Masimera Rural Bank where he became the first Chairman of the Board of Directors.
He retired after 30 years.
After retiring from Barclays Bank, he briefly worked as a manager for the First Foreign Exchange Bureau. Due to the conflict in Sierra Leone, he immigrated to the United States where he enjoyed the rest of his retirement. His major interests were; traveling, politics, soccer (football) and cricket. He was also a member of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) where he held several positions.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Ramatu S. Kabia, five children; Abdul, Alimamy (Jnr), Alusine, Alhassan and Adama, Daughter-in-law ;Aminata Serray Kabia and grandson; Musa Kabia, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles living in Lunsar, Freetown and Abroad.
