When we fast in Ramadan, we inevitably think of those who feel hunger every day of the year. We experience hunger and look forward to breaking our fast with the food we eat at iftar. Can you imagine if no food was available at sunset? Millions of people face this crisis, their hunger does not end at sunset. We know the grim statistics: About 850 million people in the world are undernourished (that is one in every six human beings), and 5.6 million children under the age of five die from hunger-related illnesses each year. Yet, our world produces enough food to feed twice the global population (Raja). So why are people hungry? A lack of power and justice, not of food, causes hunger. Today, world hunger is directly linked to what and how the developed world eats

Out of the sublime considerations and the realization of the lofty aims, spiritual as well as temporal, which are beyond human comprehension, and also for the emancipation of the soul from the domination of fleshly appetites and the fulfillment of the Divine Mission of Vicegerency, for which the qualities of moderation, temperateness and fortitude are indispensable, God has enjoined fasting upon Muslims. But it was done after migration when the clouds of gloom had lifted and the period of poverty and deprivation ended and the Muslims

The article asking the question, “The God of suffering?” is a good example of classical theodicy. For the purpose of clarity, theodicy is trying to explain the goodness and power of God in the midst of evil and suffering. The writer carefully balanced God’s attributes, with the existence of suffering and evil. Questioning the goodness of God in the midst of suffering and pain, is nothing new in the world.

Do we live in a world that was created by a God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all good? Christians think we do. Yet a powerful reason for doubting this confronts us every day: the world contains a vast amount of pain and suffering. If God is all-knowing, he knows how much suffering there is. If he is all-powerful, he could have

No doubt Prophet Muhammad will be weeping in his grave when he comes to the realization about the manner in which Muslims have been tearing one another apart. Wherever one looks one can either sees or hears Muslims fighting or throwing dust in one another’s eyes. From the Middle East to Africa, Shiites fight Sunnis vis- a-viz all in the name of Islam. What is however sad is when one sees Muslim pundits fighting their colleagues for Imamate or other Islamic titles. Interestingly, Sierra Leone is not left out in this quagmire as she too has joined the line of fighters for Muslim positions.

I am aware that some people will hear the question and say how you dare ask such a question. I dare ask such a question because unless we can identify our God, we will continue to worship false gods and idols. We will continue to be confounded without some common understanding of the God we believe. How can we describe the unique attributes of the God of Sierra Leone?
