The elections of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) are over with a new executive in place to help push the profession of journalism on the map and make it an enviable institution for the benefit of its practitioners and the public. During the electioneering campaign some of the candidates made lots of promises to the gullible SLAJ voters, they played on their feeble minds and cleverly got them to surrender their democratic and God Given rights to them

Guinea's Coup Leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara in Conakry December 25, 2008
It is pathetic for a country’s President to die and within some few hours a military coup taking place. It didn’t happen in Gen. Gnassingbe Eyadema’s Togo but Gen. Sani Abacha’s Nigeria. That’s pretty much primitive in a world of growing civility where Barack Obama, an African (Kenyan)-American, is the President-elect of the most powerful country in the world, the United States of America. In Obama, the Americans have moved over from such archaic politics by electing an African-American – nobody thought an African-American would ever be elected as President of the USA

Zimbabweans are dying of cholera in the face of dire poverty and primitive politics. When the caring international community responsibly queries, Harare says Zimbabwe has no cholera – and by extension no existential crisis. The two minds come from different universes – one closed, the other opened.

As the saying goes, "the reality is that there are two parties in Africa - the political and the military" . And so it has come to fruition and no surprise that the military has again forcibly taken the reins of state power with the declaration by Captain Moussa Dadis Camara that he is President of the Republic of Guinea following the death of longtime strongman General Lansana Conte over a week ago.

After the botched moves to revise the emoluments of the Head of State we were confronted with another unbelievable and unreal proposal to raise the salaries of our Members of Parliament.  When one considers the percentage of the proposal compared to their present income, one can easily come to the conclusion that the whole lot of Members of Parliament seem to be representing themselves and not the people who elected them.  It is granted that wages of workers in the country as a whole are not only low but laughable

January 6th, 1999 would continue to be a day that would always live in infamy. Just as American and Japanese historians will never forget December 7th, 1941 (Pearl Harbor Attack), so, too, the people of Sierra Leone would not easily erase the disturbing event(s) of January 6, 1999: the day the rebel war struck the heart of the capital city of Sierra Leone. On that fateful day hundreds died, including my former
